Leading tours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was one of the great experiences of my life. Equally great, though, were the friendships I made with the people in my training class, some of the smartest and funniest folks you’d ever want to meet. I ended up writing a story about that year of training, called “Diary of a Docent,” and I’m so grateful to Art & Antiques magazine for finding a place for it in their January/February 2025 edition. Special thanks to editor David Masello, a master wordsmith and best friend a writer could ever have. Click below to read the full Arts & Antiques article, “Diary of a Docent.”

Separately, I did a little piece on the same topic for the literary arts forum Writers Read. Since it focused on the nearly impossible task of picking just 10 objects for our highlights tours out of the 1.5 million works of art in the museum, I called it “Top Ten.” You can watch the video of me reading it here.
If you would like to read the essay, it is featured in the book “Ten.” You can buy a copy by clicking here.
